How do I become a realtor?

You join the National Association of Realtors. Realtor is a trademark and must be capitalized. The other name for that function is either a real estate salesman or a real estate broker. States issuing licenses differentiate between brokers and salesmen. Salesmen have to have been licensed as such for (typically) two years before they can apply for a brokers license.

Both salespersons and brokers can be Realtors. In most areas with which I am familiar, the local real estate board is comprised of Realtors and the multiple listing services is operated under their auspices.
